Catching a few lobsters...
/ LPO Matte Painting Redo
January 27, 2017

I reworked my old matte painting for the low planet orbit shot (seen above) to create a better composition, and to ensure the lighting of the planets matched their position in space.

I positioned spheres in our animation scene and used this render to figure out the correct shadow position to match the ship animation.

Then I created new planets in my original matte painting photoshop file based on the new render, and reworked my star field to better match the new lighting on the planets. The old version had the big gas giant be orange and the foreground moon blue, in this version I reversed that so the planet looks less like Jupiter.

Finally I made some adjustments based on critique from Dan. The shadows are darker, and the atmosphere glow around the foreground planet isn’t visible on the dark side anymore.
