Catching a few lobsters...

I’m continuing to work on environment stuff for Spire Rock Planet. I’ve got the displacements on the foreground spires mostly worked out (and we might be able to get better resolution on it if we need to by increasing the micropolygon size). I’ve also started adding barnacles and fungus onto the spires. I started out hand placing them, but now I’m redoing it as a particle system since I decided I wanted more stuff.

I also re-lit all six shots from the DIE sequence to try to get better contrast. JJ had originally lit all six shots with a single standard lighting setup meant to show the ship from all sides, which was fine for blocking but much too bright for the final look. I had color corrected the shots darker for the better, which was okay for beta, but I think relighting it in Maya has given it better highlights and shadows that’ll keep the the ship from being too hard to see (which coincidentally was the thing my Dad complained about yesterday when I showed him the Beta cut for the first time).

Lobster Fact: Lobsters have to compete for food against other animals in their ocean ecosystem including jellyfish, krill, and giraffes.
